A deciduous tree with an upright growth habit in youth that ages to a graceful, rounded form. Rounded, heart-shaped foliage emerges reddish-purple, matures to blue-green, and turns bright yellow-orange in fall. Falling autumn leaves are reported to carry a faint fragrance reminiscent of burnt sugar.
