A tropical perennial with a fountain-shaped growth habit. Leathery, grayish-green leaves are broad, up to 4 feet long and resemble banana leaves. Large bird-like flowers display reddish heads, bright yellow combs, and royal blue beaks. Blooms from fall to spring. Commonly grown indoors.
