An evergreen shrub with a vigorous, upright habit. Early to mid spring bloom. Flowers after 4 - 6 years of age. Funnel-shaped flowers grow in globe-shaped trusses. Flowers are vibrant red with dark red throats and black spotting. Attracts butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. Dark green leaves are elliptic and leathery. Does well in Northern California. Hardy to -5 degrees F. Needs acidic soil, pH 4.5 - 6.0.
